How to Prevent Coronavirus at Your Job Site

0

These tips will help make your construction site safer from COVID-19.

By taking the right precautions, we can all help to stop the spread of coronavirus (COVID-19). While the best course of action is to stay home, that’s not possible for everyone, and many construction projects are moving forward due to the ability to work outdoors, keep coworkers at safe distances, and take extra precautions. Here are some tips on making your job site safer in the face of COVID-19.

Avoid Handshakes

Press your palms together and give a slight bow. Point at the person, smile, and nod. Flash a classic thumbs-up. There are plenty of ways to greet someone without shaking hands. And, sure, you can bump elbows, but why not avoid physical contact altogether. Until this virus passes, it’s unnecessary.

Wash Hands Frequently

Have everyone frequently scrub their hands for at least 20 seconds. Don’t worry about bar soap versus liquid soap: studies have shown that you don’t get bacteria from a used bar of soap, but some prefer the moisturizing components in liquid soap. However, in terms of cleanliness, they’re equal.

How often should your hands be washed during the coronavirus outbreak? Any time you blow your nose, cough, or sneeze. Before and after you eat. Any time you go anywhere. And whenever you feel like it’s been a bit since you’ve last washed.

Wear a Mask

It’s highly recommended that anyone showing symptoms should stay home. But if they absolutely have to leave the house, it’s important they wear face masks to protect others around them.

If you’re working at a construction site, you might already be required to wear a mask to protect yourself, which means you may already have N95 masks in stock for your workers.

(If you’re currently paused on projects and not using your N95 masks, please consider donating them to healthcare workers and local hospitals in your area.)

Cover Coughs & Sneezes

Cough or sneeze into your elbow. Thoroughly wash your hands after doing so. Don’t touch the inside of your elbow to your face.

Keep Objects Clean

Thoroughly clean every surface, and clean frequently-used surfaces often. The coronavirus can survive on clothing for up to three days – and plastic, metal, and glass surfaces for as long as nine days.

Do Not Share Food

You know that scene from Lady and the Tramp (1955) when the dogs start on opposite ends of the spaghetti noodle? If that were right now, they’d both be contracting and/or spreading the coronavirus, especially since they do it in a restaurant.

All joking aside, sharing a plate of pasta, splitting a sandwich, and so on is a great way to spread COVID-19. If other hands outside of your household made the food—or if part of it has been enjoyed by someone else—don’t eat it, no matter how delicious (or romantic a la Lady and the Tramp) it might be.

Preventing Coronavirus: Display Reminders

Firstly, we’re not going to profit off of the coronavirus outbreak. If you choose to buy our custom fence screen for COVID-19 prevention, we’ll donate the profits to the World Health Organization (WHO)

Much like our standard and customized OSHA safety signs, your site can up its safety and mitigate the spread of the coronavirus with our 6ft x 10ft COVID-19 Safety Sign. The durable materials ensure it will last in all weather conditions, and the clear imagery and bilingual messaging increase the likelihood that your crews will keep the warnings in mind.

Again, all profit will be donated to the WHO. You can also make a separate donation to the WHO COVID-19 Response Fund directly.

Stay safe, take precautions, and reach out to the SONCO team anytime for expert guidance specific to your construction site.
